क्यों बिलखा रहा है टीवी...

नरकंकालों को देखना। उसे बिनना। अपनों को खोजना। मिली चीजों में तलाशना। बिलखते मां बाप। सुलगते लोग। निठारी गांव। नोएडा के एक मकान में रहता नौकर। नौकर का मालिक। और कई अनसुलझे राज़। हैरानी है। टीवी आज इस खबर को भुना रहा है। दर्द दिखा रहा है। सवाल उठा रहा है। पर एक दिन में न होने वाली इस दृशंस घटना को टीवी अब देख रहा है। हर दिन बच्चे गायब हो रहे थे। पुलिस कहती रही कि क्यों पैदा करते हो बच्चे। चलो अच्छा हुआ, कम हो एक दो। ये बात आज उठाई जा रही है। आज समझाई जा रही है कि कैसी हैवानियत। कैसा राक्षसपन। मानव दानव हो चला है। इंसान होने से क्या फायदा। पर कहां थी ये सारी बातें जब एक एक करके बच्चे गायब हो रहे थे। यकायक सरकार, नेता, अधिकारी, पुलिस, लोग सब जाग गए है। जैसै अब जान वापस ले आएंगे। दर्द कम कर देंगे। टीवी की भूमिका क्या हो। कैसी हो। तय नहीं है। दिन भर खबर धुनने से क्या न्याय मिलेगा। मिलेगी। तो केवल हड्डियां। इक्कीस महीनों में अड़तीस बच्चे गायब हुए। एक एक बच्चा एक एक परिवार का।हर परिवार कराहा होगा। पर आज गुनहगार पकड़ा गया। अब जांच करा लो। सीबीआई को दे दो। पर इस नृशंसता का जवाबदेह कौन। समाज गिर रहा है। अपनी भूख। अपनी नीचता। दूसरों की जिंदगी ले रही है। और इसका नतीजा टीवी पर दिख रहा है। कैमरें दौड़ रहे है। संवाददाता चीख रहे है। हाय हाय दिखा रहे है। लोगों का गुस्सा दिख रहा है। आरोपी के फुटेज रिपीट किए जा रहे है। पर सवाल फिर भी बना हुआ है कि पहले ही बच्चों की सुध ली जाती तो कम से कम कुछ जिंदगियां खेल रही होती। और बिलखते मां बाप टीवी पर नहीं होते। न्याय के लिए दर दर न भटकते। टीवी ने अपनी ताकत भांपी है। पर वक्त पर मौजूद रहने के बाद।

क्यों बार बार दिख रहा है सद्दाम..

टीवी जनक्रांति ला सकता है या नहीं। ये सवाल सद्दाम के साथ खड़ा हुआ है। एक देश के अतीत को जिस तरह सरेआम फांसी देते दिखाया गया, वो क्रोध पैदा करता है। टीवी पर वो शांत तानाशाह है। अतीत में उसके गुनाह आज के फैसले की वजह है। पर। सवाल है। क्या ये सही था। क्या मारने से ज्यादा भय पैदा करना जरूरी था। टीवी अपनी हदें जानता हो या न जानता हो। पर देखने वाला टीवी से हकीकत देख रहा है। हकीकत जबरन न्याय देने की। लोकतंत्र के नाम फंदा डालने की। और शांत तानाशाह आह न भरते हुए बिन नकाब डाले जिंदगी सौंप देता है। दुनिया में कई तानाशाह है। वे जरूर टीवी पर इतने हिला देने वाले दृश्य देखकर हिल गए होंगे। टीवी के माध्यम में ये एक मोड़ है। कैसे। क्यों। पिछला टीवी पर देखा कोई दृश्य याद करिए। मुझे तो ट्विन टावर का गिरना याद आता है। एक साम्राज्य के खंभों पर इसे हमला करार दिया गया। साथ ही लोकतंत्र पर भी। अब कल-आज देखे गए दृश्यों को याद करिए. वो सद्दाम जिसे कभी बहादुर माना गया। शांत रहते हुए फँदा कुबूलता है। टीवी ने अभी तक कोई ऐसी निजाम नहीं पेश की जो जनभावनाओं को एकाकार करने वाली हो। पर फांसी के ये शांत विजुअल आगामी तूफान के संकेत लिए हुए लगते है। विचार करिए। एक देश में जिस घुसपैठ को अमेरिका के लोग ही गलत मानने लगे हो, वहां पर लोकतंत्र के नाम पर इस तरह का नजारा। चुभता है। गलत के साथ गलत ठीक है। पर तरीका इतना टीवीनुमा होगा। आक्रोश दिखने लगा है। टीवी को जिन पलों का इंतजार सदियों में रहता है। वो शायद जाने अनजाने घट रहा है। पर क्या इसे दिखाया जाना जरूरी था। आज देखिए एक एमेच्योर वीडियों सभी चैनलों पर दौड़ रहा है। कैसे लटका तानाशाह। कैसे और क्यों खींचा गया ये वीडियों। तमाशा बनाया जा रहा है। डर बिठाया जा रहा है। और सभी दिखाने वाले चैनल एक बड़ी साजिश को बढ़ावा दे रहे है। क्यो लाश न दिखाने वाले समाचार चैनल बार बार सद्दाम को लटकाने, उसके शव और पूरी फांसी प्रक्रिया को बार बार दिखा रहे है। टीवी हदें भूल रहा है। जनता नाराज हो रही है। क्रांति सुलग रही है। आप देखे तो बुरा, न देखें तो बुरा। बहरहाल एक इंसान को मरते देखना कभी भी इंसानियत नहीं कहलाती। पर टीवी इसे नहीं समझ रहा है। आप समझिए। आप सोचिए। और चैनल बदलने में देर न करिए।

हफ्ता गुजरा टीवी पर(11 - 17 दिसम्बर)

शादी है। आइएगा जरूर। पर कुत्तों की। जी हां। वैन्यु था जयपुर। पर बारातियों के अरमान टीवी ने धो डाले। जिस देश की राजधानी में एक दिन में तीस हजार इंसान शादियां कर रहे हो। तो कुछ कुत्तों के मालिकों को आइडिया आ ही गया होगा। डाग प्रोडक्टस के लाखों के प्रायोजक भी तो इस शादी को बढ़ावा दे रहे थे। चलिए। टल गई शादी। भला हो टीवी का। जो पार्टियों में मारपीट को दिन भर का मसाला बनाने की कुव्वत रखता है। युवराज की पार्टी। किम के जलवे। और एक मां और बेटा की दिन भर की दास्तान। खैर शाम को सब निपट गया। माएं समझौतावादी हो गई। दर्शक फुस्स। दिन भर को सोच कर मलाल होता होगा। चलिए एक दिन तो हड़ताल में भी जाया हो गया। देश बंद का नारा था। लाल झंड़ों में क्रांति लाने वाले टीवी पर छाए रहे। अच्छा है। पर राजधानी दिल्ली में वे उग्र हो गए। कोलकाता में परंपरा मनती रही। परंपरा आईटी विभाग, इनकम टैक्स भई, भी निभा रहा है। अमिताभ अस्पताल में थे तो नोटिस भेजा था, इस बार निशाने पर है अनंत गुप्ता के पिता। कैसे दिए पचास लाख। सवाल ठीक है। पर टीवी पर पिता ने जवाब नहीं दिया। क्या देता। जवाब टीवी ढूंढता भी नहीं। नहीं तो एक एसीपी ने क्यों मार डाले कैद में रखे गए दो मासूमों को। पर सजा पर हल्ला मचाना आता है टीवी को। एसीपी को मौत। टीवी को खबर। खबर लखनऊ से उठी। गनर वापस लो। नेता हो या विधायक। वीसी की चली। चलिए हास्टल में अब शांति रहेगी। शांति उन दिलो को भी मिली जो टीवी पर दिन रात बाल दल बाल बल्ला दर बल्ला भारत की जीत मांगते है। मिली। जोहानिसबर्ग में। साउथ अफ्रीका के खिलाफ। पर जीतने की मंशा दोहा के कमजोर दिखी। किस पायदान पर रहा भारत ये कम ही जाने। टीवी मे भी कम ही जनाया। खैर जानिए। और देखते रहिए टीवी..

2006: Media year of justice.

Ok, the year sunset is one week far. 2006. A year that gives media a mean and tool to influence. Though in past news media portrays a wide instrument to attack negligence and apathy. But then the news is political or social in face. By the evolvement of technology and human resources, yes produced by several institutes, the media get a news face, Overall the population of our country has much 25 year old youngs. Well, the story is the change on scenario and screen. Last year we see how 'injustice become justice' how 'parliamentarian become greedy' sensex booms and dooms, social reality in particular stories, two day uninterrupted Prince episode and many gossips on TV. We surely enjoy it. This is all about content-trp relation. But on the end of business, joint ventures, acquisition and opt-out really become norms for many upcoming years. The basic question of journalism on tv lies under the protest of justice. We only accept that the profession of courage become a proffession of luring. Every channels is in a rat race. Some by himself, and some by competitors. Who know who is First? Atleast viewer cant think about it. 'Breaking news' becomes the always seeing third part of tv. You find it everytime. But ignorance and negligence are also the part of 2006 news. Like the most unfocused issue is farmers suicide. No channel give a proper time to ask the government that what it would do? So, however 2006 is gone, we surely desire that 2007 changed the geometry of news content. This is not an assumption. The power of awakeness and awareness in common people and the tool they got by the media is become the rule. It is like first you play, and then the umpire tell you to paly rightly man!

Journalist arrested: RSF calls for explanations

(RSF/IFEX) - Reporters Without Borders has urged the Indian authorities, particularly Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, to provide clear and objective information about the detention of Abdul Rouf, an editor with the "Srinagar News", and his wife Zeenat Rouf.

"The rule of law should be guaranteed in Kashmir as elsewhere in India. It is unacceptable that the security forces arrest, detain and charge journalists in the most dubious circumstances," the worldwide press freedom organisation said. "We want explanations about the detention of Abdul Rouf and his wife from both the State and Union authorities. If this arrest is linked to his work as a journalist, he should be released immediately," it added.

The organisation pointed out that another reporter, photo-journalist Maqbool Sahil, has been held without trial in Kashmir since September 2004 (see IFEX alert of 9 August 2006).On 9 December 2006, a judge in the capital Srinagar ordered the release on bail of Zeenat Rouf, who is currently in custody at a police station in Rambagh, but police have so far refused to release her.

Since 4 December, Abdul Rouf and his wife have been held under a weapons law. Police, who presented a first report (FIR 341/2006), accuse them of sheltering armed separatists at their home. The couple's family denies the accusations, saying that they have never committed any crimes. Between 21 November and 4 December, the journalist was held at the Special Operations Group (SOG) centre without ever going before a judge. A police officer in Srinagar, reached by telephone by Reporters Without Borders, refused to give any information about the reasons for their detention.Described by his colleagues as "calm and loyal in his work", Abdul Rouf was a calligrapher for various publications in Srinagar for 15 years. For the past four years he has worked as deputy editor for "Srinagar News". The couple's two daughters, Rafiya and Rubiya, and their son, Amir, who is a deaf-mute, told the newspaper "Greater Kashmir" how the SOG agents searched the family home in Srinagar on the night of 21 November. They have been forced to take refuge at the home of a neighbour. They have been unable to return home since the house has been sealed and "police are preventing the children from having access to their clothes, books and toys," the journalist's brother told "Greater Kashmir".

Photo-journalist Muhammad Maqbool Khokar, better known as Maqbool Sahil, has been held in Kashmir since 18 September 2004 under an emergency public security law. Despite calls for his release from the Jammu and Kashmir High Court and the National Human Rights Commission, the security services refuse to set him free.

BBC CENSORS CALLER

On Sunday 26 November 2006, at 17-45, BBC Radio 3 had a programme entitled "Is Communism bad for art".

It is obvious from the blurb, see below, that the focus of the programme was to discuss the "horrors of communism". However, the, so called, discussion was little more than a crude rant against an invented "communism" which it was clear that Lebrecht knows nothing whatsoever about.

When John Sanderson, a jazz musician and communist rang in to point out that capitalism has murdered untold millions of people he was quickly taken off air and told, by Lebrecht, that his view was "historically inaccurate".

After complaining about this blatant censorship the comrade was rung by the shows producer apologising for the 'mistake' in cutting him off and no, she did not know who had cut him o ff and it must have been due to lack of time!

The comrade was promised that his letter protesting against BBC censorship would be put on their website.

It will be interesting to see if this does happen. If so, comrades can certainly intervene.

The programme is still available to hear on the BBC website for the next few days.

Comrade Sanderson's Letter to the BBC

IS THE BBC BAD FOR DEBATE

It is ironic that the BBC Radio 3 programme, Lebrecht Live, on the effects of censorship on art should itself censor a member of the public who had called in to air his views on the subject.

For the benefit of those who did not hear "Is Communism Bad for Art?", R3, Sunday, 26th. November, the preface to the programme in Radio Times stated that "The 20th. Century’s dominant ideology was inherently suppressive. It silenced, imprisoned and murdered millions of people and in a few countries where it still prevails freedom of speech is under severe restraint. But was Communism bad for Art? Much of the work has been appalling propaganda, but some of it could not have come into being under any other conditions...".

But why was this programme being broadcast now? My first thought was that it may have been prompted by the failure of the now capitalist Russia to produce the promised land of Liberal democracy. Perhaps the BBC was worried that those artists and intellectuals who had been so keen to see the end of the Soviet Union were beginning to have second thoughts. As such, the time may have seemed ripe for The Beeb and Norman Lebrecht to engage in a bit of old-style Commie-bashing, with an intellectual veneer, of course. It was obvious from the start that rubbishing Communism was the real point of the programme. The longer it went on, the more it seemed that Lebrecht’s views were not going to be challenged.

I ra ng the programme requesting to put some points to Mr. Lebrecht and his guests and, somewhat to my surprise, was contacted by the BBC to go on air. Given the short space of time, my primary consideration was to counter the assertions against Communism by presenting a few facts about capitalism’s record on suppression, imprisonment and murder which, as far as I can ascertain, has been responsible for far more deaths than Communism . Unfortunately, Mr. Lebrecht (or some higher authority at the BBC) would have none of it. I was quite pointedly faded out, with Mr. Lebrecht retorting "You are historically incorrect". Quite apart from the real content of the programme, essentially a diatribe against Communism, he also put forward some spurious notion about the "purifying fire of Marxism-Leninism" having a beneficial effect upon Art. It is a pity that he did not let me finish my point, because he could have applied his "theory", arguably with more success, to the experience of Afro-Americans.

In the annals of capitalism’s bloody colonial and imperialist history, the slave trade must surely rank as one of the most heinous crimes against humanity. It has been suggested that as many as 25 to 30 million Africans died at the hand of the British slave trade alone. It is reasonable to suggest that no group in modern history has ever been so oppressed or had their culture and identity so rigorously suppressed. Never mind, their particular ordeal in the "purifying fire" of slavery, so central to capitalist development in Europe, gave Blues, Gospel and Jazz to the world. As a Jazz musician myself, I don’t think the creation of Jazz can compensate for the life of even one slave.

Quite apart from this particular, what of the deaths in both the First and Second World Wars, which were, ultimately, about the continuing division of the world into capitalist spheres of influence?

The First World War accounted for about 8.5 million military deaths, over 21 million wounded, over 7 million prisoners and missing. Still, at least we got the War Poets. As to the Second World War, estimates suggest that up to 60 million died. And what of the millions suppressed, worked to death, starved and neglected in the development and ascendancy of capitalism : the nameless and numberless workers in the sweat-shops, mines and mills of Britain in the 18th. and 19th. centuries? Post-1945 alone, Imperialist adventures in Aden, Afghanistan, Egypt, Ireland, India, Kenya, Malaya, Korea, Iraq, Yugoslavia, Sierra Leone, Vietnam - the list could go on - account for many millions of deaths. Added to this are the miserable and stunted lives of those still being economically exploited as cheap labour in the Imperialised countries of the world. Moreover, in the states of the former Soviet Union, most notably Russia, drug dependancy is rife and the vulnerable are simply dying on the streets. Life expectancy for the Russian male population fell from 64 years (in the last years of the Soviet state) to 58 years in 2003 (source : Wall Street Journal, February 4th. 2004); this is even below the level of Bangladesh and well below that of Cuba : 74 years in 2002.

It is estimated that this reduction in life expectancy has led to over 15 million premature deaths and that, should this trend not be reversed, Russia’s population will decline by 30% over the next few decades.

As far as anyone with any understanding of history is concerned, it is not I and my fellow Communists, but Mr. Lebrecht who is "historically incorrect". Moreover, whilst the Russian Revolution may have been a defining moment ,it is a sad fact that it was not Communism that was the dominant ideology of the 20th. Century, but Capitalism. But equally,it must be remembered that the first attempt to create a Communist society may have failed, but the existence of the Soviet Union led, directly or indirectly, to the end of Colonial rule in Africa and Asia , and the defeat of Fascism and Nazism.

हफ्ता गुजरा टीवी पर (1-10दिसम्बर)

अदालत के अदब से हम यहां तशरीफ लाएं है। सिद्धू टीवी पर बोलते है। तीन साल की सजा के बाद भी मंच से दहाड़ते है। पीड़ित परिवार तक ये आवाजें नही जाती। वो तो याद करता है वो दिन जब घर में एक तस्वीर पर माला चढ़ गई। इसे सिद्धूईज्म कहे या बड़बोलापन कि वे जहां तहां तो बोलते रहते है। पर उस परिवार से दो शब्द न कह पाए। टीवी ने मुजरिम को रोजाना की तरह पेश किया। शिबू भले ही मुजरिम की तरह पेश आए। उनके गांव निमरा, झारखण्ड में वे देवता हो, मंहगी गाड़ियो से घूमते हो, पर अब तिहाड़ का एक कमरा उनके लिए रिजर्व है। टीवी पर हर कोई है। शाहरूख से लेकर मुशरर्फ तक। दोनो नएपन की बात करते है। एक नए कलेवर में केबीसी तो दूसरे नए तेवर में कश्मीर का भविष्य बदलना चाहते है। भविष्य तो संजय दत्त का दाव पर लगा है। टीवी पर उनका अपील चलाई जाती है। वे कही खुद बोलते है तो कही ग्राफिक्स पर छपते है। छपते छपते ये खबर आ गई कि प्रिटी जिंटा की अंतरंगता देख लीजिए। देखा। वो दहाड़ने लगी। एक करोड देंगी। चलिए कोई लेने वाला अगे नहीं आया। आगे तो हक लेने वाले लखनऊ में आए। चुनाव का हक। तमाशा खड़ा कर दिया। वीसी निशाने पर। चुनाव करवाइए, वरना...। भारत खैर परमाणु दोस्ती के लिए चुन लिया गया। अमेरिका द्वारा। अमेरिका से ही एक भारतीय ने उड़ान भरी। स्पेस की। सुनीता की इस उड़ान की खबरें अच्छी लगी। पर स्पेस में मार्स ने भी टीवी पर खुद को रहस्यमय बताया। मंगल पर जल है। पानी है। और टीवी पर बेढंगे, तरह तरह की मायावी तस्वीरे नुमायां हुई। खेल की भी तस्वीरे भी खूब दिखी। दोहा एशियाई खेलों की। भारत छठे सातवें पायदान पर रहा। पर जोश दिखा। जोश ही बढ़ा रहा है टीवी। देखते रहिए।

किस्सा क्रिकेट का। यही हाल रहा है टीवी पर, हर कोई क्रिकेट में हारने को ऐसे प्रस्तुत कर रहा था जैसै देश युद्ध में हार गया हो। सीमित सोच। क्रिकेटरों पर ये इल्जाम था कि वे खेलते कम प्रचारों पर ज्यादा डोलते है। ग्रेग चैपल पर कि वे तो बहक गए है। सासंदों पर बोल गए। पर टीवी ये भूल जाता है कि इन खिलाड़ियों को फर्श से अर्श पर वो ले जाता है। देश की नब्ज बनाता है। और जब कभी कभी आर्टिलेरी में खेल का खून जम जाता है तो स्थिति को हार्ट अटैक बताकर कोहराम मचाता है। मचाने दीजिए। हर कोई चिल्ला रहा है। सहरानपुर में भाजपा वाले, संसद में बसपा - सपा। वजहें राजनैतिक है। ताकतवर भी। कानपुर में अम्बेडकर की मूर्ति विखंडित की गई। महाराष्ट्र में असर देखा गया। दलित आंदोलन भभक उठा। टीवी पर टायर, बस, स्टैण्ड जलते देखे गए। स्क्रीन पर आग जल उठी। संबंधों की आग। कुछ अलग ही होती है। हर दिन कोई न कोई संबंध तार तार होता है टीवी पर। पर भला हो मुख्यमंत्री वसुंधरा राजे सिंधिया का।' किस' किया। देश की सबसे अमीर महिला किरण मजूमदार शाह को। तमाशा बन गया। वैसे पेज थ्री के इस कल्चर को देखना बड़ा सुहाता है। पर टीवी ने इसे हिपहाप कल्चर की देन कहा। वो भी राजसी परिवार की देन बताकर। चलिए बड़े लोग है। टीवी पर भगवान बनते दिखाया जा रहा है। एक शख्स नागपुर के। कहते है वे भगवान है। टीवी इन्हे दिखाकर प्रशंसक पैदा करता है। प्रशंसको को धूम-2 के खूब प्रोमो देखने को मिले। म्यूजिक चैनलों पर नहीं। न्यूज चैनलों पर। देखिए ऐश की पिछली फिल्म - उमराव जान- आनी थी तो अभिषेक-ऐश साथ साथ डोल रहे थे। इस बार ऐश के साथ पूरा परिवार था। बच्चन परिवार भाई। समाचार चैनलों ने पूरी शेड्यूल ही बता डाला। इतने पे उड़े, इतने पे उतरे। इतने पर मुडे और इतने पे झुके। कमाल है। कमाल तो रामदेव बाबा का भी है। पूरे देश में योग की लहर फैलना वाले वाचाल बाबा गांधी पर बोल गए। टीवी पर देखा गया। शायद लोकतंत्र का फायदा है। बोल गए तो बोल गए। बोला संजय दत्त ने भी भगवान से प्रार्थना कीजिए। की गई। सो आतंकवादी नहीं, कांस्पिरेटर नही, केवल नाजायज हथियार रखने के दोषी। चलिए पाप से प्राइश्चित बड़ा। पर मलाल न होने वालों को सजा मिल जाती है। शिबू सोरेन को दोषी पाया गया। अपने निजी सचिव की हत्या के मामल में। सांसद थे। है। और शायद रहे भी। पर उनका क्या जो बेच रहे है। अपने सरकारी आवास के कमरे। किराए पर। क्या चाहिए। सम्मान, पैसा या टीवी पर दिखने का बहाना। भगवान जाने। भगवान ये भी जानता है कि दाउद कासकर इब्राहिम कहां है। हर हफ्ते टीवी उन्हे खोजता है। बताता है। पर बीते दिनों दस लोगों को लाया गया। वे डी कंपनी से जुडे थे। जुड़ाव महत्वपूर्ण होता है। फिल्म का दर्शक से। आयोजन का जगह से। तभी को इंटर नेशनल फिल्म फेस्टिवल आफ इण्डिया गोवा में जब मनका है तो गोवा की आबोहवा लोगों को खींच ले जाती है। इस बार भी पैंतीसवें महोत्सव में कई अच्छी फिल्में देखी गई। टीवी पर देखकर अच्छा लगा। अच्छा लगा कोलकाता और कई सांसदों को कि सौरभ गांगुली लौट आए है। बल्ला चलेगा। तो वे भी तल जांएगे।वरना प्रतार तो है ही नजर आने को। चलिए नजर आने वालों को देखते रहिए टीवी पर।

There was a time when we saw regional flicks on out tv sets, every sunday in the afternoon. Somehow it captures the attention. And show the power of cinemisation and unity in diversity.
